Soda Kiln
In a soda firing, soda ash and baking soda are introduced into the kiln near its peak temperature, between 2,200 and 2,400°F. The vapour settles on the clay and forms a glass-like surface; unglazed areas flash to a warm brick colour. These pieces were fired at the Ceramic League of Miami. As in raku, the result is never fully predictable — an elegant way to let go and leave it to the kiln.
